The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology research line “BioLisi”, which is part of the Research Laboratory in Intelligent Systems “LISI”, was established in 2004 by Prof. Luis Fernando Niño Ph.D. with the support of students from the Computer Science Department of the National University of Colombia; with the main purpose of exploring different problems in molecular biology. Specifically, BioLisi explores and applies the computational bases of research areas such as Machine Learning, Bio-inspired Computation, Data Mining, Intelligent Systems, Algorithms and Optimization Processes, to the solution of Life-Sciences problems at a sequence, structural and functional level. Thanks to the interdisciplinarity of the research studies carried out by the laboratory, BioLisi collaborates with different research groups and Institutes, both external and internal to the University.
